Christmas 2009

So today is Christmas and it's glorious and warm. We woke up, opened gifts and took Nala on a hour walk. Yesterday for Christmas Eve we rented a boat and took the dogs out for some fun & relaxation. The bay was calm and beautiful.

Turbo is a born water dog. He loves the water. Unfortunately is sinks after a few seconds of swimming.

I saw about a dozen sting ray. These two followed me down the beach for several minutes. I think they were as curious of us as we were of them.

The bay has been full of jelly fish the last few months. This trip there had less but a few washed up on shore. Turbo had to investigate.

Merry Christmas everyone. Hope you are not cold.

A Beautiful Day

It is now the end of November and the temperatures are finally starting to fall. It's an absolutely beautiful day today so I grabbed the camera and took off for a Saturday drive.

While taking this photo I spotted a giant sea turtle that I watched for several minutes. I tried to get a photo but I was just to far away. It's the first sea turtle I have seen on the surface. I have spotted them underwater before.

This area is called "The Slot." It's a favorite for advanced scuba divers. Strong currents keep the rest of us away.

I love Cable Beach. It has the most beautiful blue water. It is also a great place to snorkel if you don't get motion sick.

Not a bad day. Now off to do laundry. Ugh!

The GTMO Special

A GTMO Special is a car that once upon a time made it to GTMO and never made it back out.  Over the years it's sold from owner to owner until it finally falls apart. There are some amazing mechanics on the Island that can keep them going long past their prime. As a result, there are many cars that look like they are on their last leg still flying down the road. Well, maybe not flying, the speed limit is only 25. Because these vehicles are truly ugly, many car owners show off their talents by painting their cars.  You  see all kinds of cars with polka dots, flowers, stripes and sports team logos. Below is the most famous of all GTMO Specials "The Mystery Machine." Painted by some friends right down the road that now live in Hawaii.  I love seeing it on the road. It brings me back to my youth. Rut-row Raggy.

Maple Chocolate Chip Banana Nut Muffins

For those of you wondering what we did with our bananas.

And yes, they were delicious.

Good times

Have you ever seen such a happy puppy? This is what Turbo looks like after a fun filled morning at the beach.

We took advantage of the early hour and headed to Ferry Landing beach before it got crowded.

This is why they call it Ferry Landing.

Ahhhhhh, we had the whole beach to ourselves.

Banana Watch - Day 114 - The End.

Finally!!!! Who knew it took  almost four months for bananas to ripen. All that watching and waiting is just to high-maintenance for me.

So it was decided today was the day.  I said, "bring out the machete." Any day my husband gets to use a machete is a good day.

Hummm, they sure are small.

Small but tasty. They have a very mild banana flavor. Maybe because our soil does not have many nutrients.   Now we just need to figure out what to do with them and fast. I think we let them over ripen a bit.

I hope you enjoyed our banana saga.

Last week we went on the GTMO queen for a going away party. I was able to get these two shots. Enjoy!

Labor Day or Bust

Today we kayaked to Hicacal, once again, to get some exercise and find nice shells.

This is the best place for shells. We never go home empty handed.

The bright orange shells are called fighting conch. They are my favorite.

This is a crab.

This is a jellyfish.

This is a crab eating a jellyfish.

This is another crab eating another jellyfish.

Yet another jellyfish being devoured.

Are you beginning to see a pattern?

Two crabs fighting over a jellyfish. I'm telling you it was a total blood bath. Only Jellyfish don't have blood.

This one was lucky enough to get away. Unfortunately, he got away by washing up on shore.  Doh!

Today I saw two sting rays, countless crabs, hundreds of jellyfish, lots of fish, and four dolphins. All and all, not a bad day.

Banana Watch - Day 90

I am happy to report the bananas are still hanging on.  This would not be the case if it had not fallen onto another banana tree.

I am even happier to report they are starting to turn yellow.

Don't worry now. That's not a ghost in the left section of the photo. There was a dog hair on my lens.

Probably from this little stinker.
