One year there was a dockworkers strike on the East coast so the Navy bought a whole ship load of Chiquita bananas for the base and just unloaded them at the shipyard. We all went down and took home stalks and stalks of them. One was taller than I was being about ten at the time. My mom and my sisters made so many things out of bananas that I thought I would never eat a banana again! We had so many loaves of banana nut bread that it filled a freezer! The old adage of "When the ship comes in, buy" was taken a little too literally that time!
